Monitor your equipment

Tracking the mobile equipment (trolleys) in the airport helps to make the allocation and maintenance of this equipment more efficient. It is quicker to find the trolleys when they need to be used, and easier to plan a redistribution of them if too many of them are accumulated in the same place. By following the patterns of movement of the trolleys, the personnel will also be able to get an indication of how many of the trolleys have been used, and how much maintenance they need.

This type of tracking is already known from industrial contexts, but it is also suitable for a number of other sectors. Hospitals, for example, will derive great benefit from being able to track their equipment. Trolleys in airports and shopping centres are of key significance for earnings, but as the trolleys are left at random, they are seldom used optimally.

Lyngsoe Systems is supplying an RFID system to monitor the baggage trolleys in Dubai Airport.

A total of 4,000 baggage trolleys in Terminal 3 of the airport are to be fitted with RFID tags. And the area covered by the terminal, which corresponds to 35 football pitches on four floors, will be fitted with 60 RFID readers, which will monitor the location of the trolleys, and help to find them in nooks and crannies.
